Çeşme's story,
from age to age.

Three stops within easy reach of Çeşme Neşe Hotel: a 6–7 minute walk to Çeşme Castle and the Archaeology Museum, ~25 km to the seaside Erythrai from the Ionian era, and ~50 km to Klazomenai — home to some of the world's oldest olive-oil workshops.

Çeşme Castle
01 · 6–7 min walk from Çeşme Neşe Hotel

Çeşme Castle

Just a 6–7 minute walk from Çeşme Neşe Hotel, rising on the hillside overlooking the marina and the shore, Çeşme Castle was built in the early 16th century during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II. Built to protect the coast against pirate raids, the castle has been thoroughly restored and now houses the Çeşme Archaeology Museum.

The museum's collection presents hundreds of archaeological pieces from Erythrai, Alaçatı and around the Çeşme Gulf. The view of the sea and the marina from the castle's bastions is among the most memorable moments of this short walk from the hotel.

Erythrai Ancient City

Erythrai Ancient City

In the village of İldırı, about 25 km from Çeşme Neşe Hotel, Erythrai was one of the twelve major cities of ancient Ionia. Built on hills overlooking the sea, the city's amphitheatre, agora ruins and traces of the Temple of Athena await visitors.

Having lived in the shadow of higher-profile cities like Ephesus and Pergamon, Erythrai offers an atmospheric, away-from-the-crowds experience. Excavations have continued since 1964; many of the artefacts unearthed here are on display at the Çeşme Archaeology Museum. From the hotel, it makes for a comfortable day trip.

Klazomenai Ancient City
03 · Urla · ~50 km from Çeşme Neşe Hotel

Klazomenai Ancient City

In the İskele neighbourhood of Urla, Klazomenai — founded around 1000 BC — was one of the most important harbour cities of Ionian civilisation. Among the most striking remains today are some of the oldest known olive-oil workshops in the world.

Dating back to the 6th century BC, the pressing and filtration techniques used in these workshops form the foundation of modern olive-oil production. For lovers of archaeology and Aegean gastronomy, this city — a short drive from Çeşme Neşe Hotel — brings ancient and contemporary stories together.
